Bionic Woman pilot review

Bionic Woman

a young woman is re-built after a horrific accident and finds herself entwined in the machinations of a covert government project and it's various members (and enemies)

Type of Pilot: action/adventure; sci-fi

Similar Shows: Painkiller Jane, The Bionic Woman, Alias

The Inner Light: Everyone has to sing for their supper.

Strengths: Great casting, and it looks cool.

Weaknesses: A clumsy script, with lots of bad dialogue.

Impressive Characters: None of the characters come off as impressive.

Impressive Actors: Michelle Ryan is a good lead. Katee Sackoff does a great job as her nemesis. Miguel Ferrer is great as her boss.

Less-Than-Impressive Characters: All of them.

Continuity: From the way it ended, I'm guessing there'll be a lot continuity in this show.

Rewatchability: None. While I'm keen to see the next episode, I have no desire to see this particular episode again. I found all the opening scenes to be painful to watch, as the writers/producers hit me over the head with the background information that they felt I needed to know. Yes, they are right, by and large I needed to know it. But, it could have been imparted in a subtler manner.

Three Things I Really Like About This Pilot:

Ryan.

Sackoff.

The FX and action sequences are great.

Three Things I Really Don't Like About This Pilot:

The on-the-nose dialogue is awful. Quesions like "Why do you hate me?", "Why are you with me?" and "What do you want from me?" are met by up-front explain-everything answers. I know it's a pilot, and I know that the audience has to be brought up to speed, but there are subtler ways of expositon. This is just plain awful.

The tough-guy dialogue is also awful. Too much corny lines that we've heard before. In general, the pilot works best when she's running, jumping and fighting. As soon as she stops to talk to anyone, it's hard to stomach.

Seems to be a large cast. For no good reason.

Miscellaneous Comments:

An awful pilot for what still looks like it could turn into a pretty good TV series. I'll be watching.

GRADE: C+

For a reviewer you could use some grammar and spelling lessons.

LOL

Well, I'll be alright as long as I don't try and teach English :)

Ignoring Friday Night Lights renders the Emmy's meaningless.
